This 1977 release by J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet features “Elvis Has Left the Building”, a poem written by J.D., within days of the funeral of Elvis Presley and performed by J.D. Sumner, which went to # 1 on the charts at the time of release and remains popular with Elvis fans all over the world for years. It has been scarcely available for quite some time.

The B side is the original are rare release of “Sweet Sweet Spirit” by J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, for which this world renowned group first introduced on the Elvis show.

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the loss of Elvis Presley and the 10th year loss of J.D. Sumner, we wanted to make this special collectible available.

Donnie Sumner is my second cousin. His natural sister Frances was adopted by my mother and daddy before I was born. Throughout the years, Donnie has worked with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet in different capacities. He is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and now works with me on J.D. Sumner and J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet projects. Several years before daddy passed, he and Donnie spent many hours together in Donnie’s recording studio.

This CD is a result of those personal times together. Donnie has captured the heart-felt emotions that I have truly missed in years since. You will enjoy this unique and warm collection of memories between Donnie and J.D. Sumner. From the first time, I still cry when I listen to this project.

On Thursday, April 02, 1998, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. This, The Gospel Music Hall of Fame series recognizes the achievements of artists who have received this distinct honor. This project highlights the most popular and enduring songs and performances of notable inductees. It was through J.D. Sumner’s leadership that this legendary group found its place of influence and high esteem within the gospel music industry.

Over the nearly 54 years he spent singing around the world, J.D. not only developed a fan base for his Stamps Quartet, he also helped developed what has become a vibrant, growing musical art form. This Hall of Fame Series collection contains 25 great songs recorded by the legendary man and his group and represents recording made between 1968 and 1992.
